Growth
August 13, 2026
I was thinking about the word growth and how easily we can mistake it for becoming something other than what we are.
But look at a seed.
Growth does not begin by closing itself off. The seed opens.
Something that has been hidden inside begins to reach outward. A small root moves down into the earth. A sprout pushes upward toward the light. Then come leaves, branches, perhaps flowers and fruit.
The more it grows, the more it opens.
And yet, at the same time, it becomes more grounded.
Perhaps growth is something like that for us too.
It does not necessarily mean becoming harder, more certain, or more closed to what life might bring. Maybe it means becoming open enough to receive what we could not receive before. Open to another possibility. Another way of seeing. Another question. Another version of ourselves waiting quietly beneath the surface.
We reach upward while our roots deepen.
We become more open to the sky and more grounded in the earth.
Maybe that is what growth really is.
Not becoming someone else.
Becoming more fully what was already waiting inside us.
