After writing about the book of blank pages I found at the bookstore, I listened to one of my songs.
There is a line in it:
“The manuscript will be a blank page.”
It was the line that made me realize that I had carried home something I had already imagined in words.
Then the song ended.
Another song began to play.
And there, in another song I had written, was another line:
“A blank page and a daydream.”
Another blank page.
I began to wonder how many times I had returned to this image without realizing it.
Perhaps the blank page has been quietly making its way through my writing all along.
