Resilience

March 16, 2026

While walking along the sidewalk, I noticed a small yellow flower growing between the cracks of the cement.

It wasn’t planted there.
No one prepared the soil for it.
No gardener tended to it.

And yet, there it was,
alive, bright, and quietly beautiful against the gray pavement.

Sidewalks are not places designed for life.
They are meant to be solid and unyielding.
But somehow a tiny seed found a narrow opening, caught a little rain, felt a little sunlight, and decided that was enough.

Enough to grow.
Enough to reach upward.
Enough to bloom.

That small flower reminded me what resilience really looks like.

Resilience is not about having perfect conditions.
It is about growing anyway.

It is about finding a way forward even when the environment is harsh, the odds are small, and the space to grow seems almost nonexistent.

The flower didn’t wait for a garden bed.
It didn’t ask for softer ground.
It simply did what life does.
It grew.

And in doing so, it transformed a cold crack in the concrete into a patch of beauty.

Sometimes resilience is loud and heroic.
But often it is much quieter than that.

Sometimes resilience is simply a small yellow flower
growing between the cracks of cement,
gently reminding the world that life always finds a way.
